Vandenberg Middle School Counseling Department

Welcome to Vandenberg Middle School.  The counselors at Vandenberg Middle School are dedicated in building success for the students, staff and parent community.  The counseling department works with students on an individual basis, as well as, in group settings.  The VMS Counseling Department is a member of the national organization of ASCA (American School Counselor Association).  The counseling department has built its program in accordance with the National Standards set forth by ASCA.  The VMS Counseling Department is one of five California schools to be recognized with the national award, RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program).  The counseling department is committed to deliver a comprehensive program.  The counselors work with ALL students in promoting career, personal and social, and academic growth.  The “Counselor Chats” are well-liked by the students and staff which allows the counselors to see ALL students and deliver guidance lessons.  The 7th graders receive curriculum in personal/social and academic development.  This curriculum is articulated with the school wide BEST (Building Effective Schools Together) program.  The 8th graders receive curriculum in Personal/Social, Academic and Career Education.  In addition, Peggy Faulk, the department chair, has been recognized by Santa Barbara County with the Venoco Crystal Apple Award.  This award is given for dedication to students and education, having instructional and motivational skills, ability to challenge and inspire students and ability to interact with students, staff, and the community. 

    Peggy Faulk is the Department chair for the Counseling Department.  She has twenty two years experience as a school counselor, 8 years as a classroom teacher, and serves as the advisor of the VMS National Junior Honor Society.

    Mrs. Faulk has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wichita State University and Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Georgia State University

    She is married to Dr. Ken Faulk, principal of Crestview Elementary School.  They have two married daughters and two grandsons.

     Ms. McCallum

    Ms. Betty McCallum has been an educator for 24 years.  She was a high school counselor at St Helena High School and Tracy High School for a total of 12 years.  She has served Lompoc Unified as a site administrator at Vandenberg Middle School, and Cabrillo High School; and also as a District administrator.  She earned her Bachelor of Science, Master of Science degrees and her Pupil People Service Credential from California State University, East Bay.  She earned her Administrative Credential from California State University, Sonoma. 

    Ms. McCallum currently lives in Solvang.  She has three adult children.  Her son teaches sixth grade math in Sacramento California, her youngest daughter teaches fifth grade in Ocean View California and oldest daughter is a Physical Therapist in Chandler Arizona.  Ms. McCallum values life-long learning.  She encourages children to find their own interest, and pursue the training and/or education that will satisfy their goals.
