Bylaws of the Board
Orienting New Board Members
The Board and administrative staff shall assist each new member-elect to understand the Board's functions, policies, and procedures and operation of the school system before the electee takes office. Incoming member shall be given a copy of the Brown Act and informed that they must conform to its requirements as if they had already assumed office. The following orientation methods shall be employed:
1. The electee shall be given selected material on the function, policies and procedures of the Board and the school system as soon after election as possible.
2. The electee shall be invited to attend Board meetings and to participate in its discussions.
3. The electee shall be invited to meet with the Superintendent and other administrative personnel to discuss services they perform for the Board.
4. The electee shall be provided with a copy of the Board's policies and bylaws, administrative regulations and copies of pertinent materials developed by the state school board association.
5. The electee may attend, at district expense, workshops for newly elected members, as provided in California Education Code.
