29. Reduce Transportation Costs

Suggestion
Reduce Transportation Costs

Response
State funding for transportation is proposed to be cut (entirely) in the Governor's 2012-2013 budget.  Transportation funding was initially reduced 50% in the 2011-2012 school year as a result of the December trigger, but was partially restored as a result of SB81. Despite this partial restoration, state transportation funding is proposed to be cut 100% in the 2012-2013 school year going forward.

Because student attendance is dependent upon transportation, eliminating it is not an option in Lompoc Unified.  There are also numerous students transported to outlying schools and requirements to transport special education students.  Transportation routing will be examined to make them more efficient. Attendance boundaries will also be examined through the lens of transportation efficiency, school capacities and program practicality.
