64. Eliminate the assistant principals at the middle schools

Suggestion:

Eliminate the assistant principals at the middle schools and have the counselors do the discipline of the students.

 

Response:

Although school counselors do provide some administrative oversight, they are not credentialed to discipline students for violations in Ed. Code; disciplining / suspending students for Ed Code violations requires an administrative credential.  Additionally, there is much discussion within the school counseling community whether being the school's disciplinarian is an appropriate role for a school counselor.
