Welcome to Buena Vista Elementary School! If you haven’t visited yet, I hope you come by soon. Our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and outstanding students combine to make Team Buena Vista a creative and productive place.
The school year 2015-16 begins with a lovelier garden in front of the school, myself as principal since Dr. Burton has retired, and several new teachers. Mrs. Haggerty will teach TK/K, Mrs. Das has Kindergarten, Mrs. Luther has second grade, Mr. Barthel will be our 4th-6th Achievement teacher, and Mrs. Lara will job-share a third grade with Mrs. Campbell. We also welcome a half-time custodian, Muserref Vogler.
We begin this school year with two new chromebook carts, giving us a total of four computer carts in addition to our computer lab, which was just upgraded by the district IT office. All of this additional technology along with our new mathematics textbook adoption and our always strong language arts instruction will give our teachers and students exciting opportunities to build 21st century skills.
Our very successful PTA is already setting up a calendar of special programs to enhance our students education with offerings in the performing arts and activities to entertain and engage all of our students. They are also setting up the fundraisers to fund these enrichment programs for our students.
Our school garden is florishing and will offer opportunities during the day and as an afterschool garden club. After a year’s hiatus the theater arts club will return preparing and performing a musical for spring performances. This year we will continue to have the YMCA on our campus providing before and after school care.
