Folleto del Programa de Inmersión Dual
The LUSD Dual Immersion School thrives with a 90:10 model. With this model, 90% of instruction is taught in Spanish and 10% in English in Kindergarten and first grade, Instruction in English increases each year until 50% of instruction is in English and Spanish by fifth grade. Classes are comprised of 1/3 native Spanish speakers, 1/3 native English speakers and 1/3 of students who are bilingual.
In the Fall of 2012, the first Dual Immersion cohort formed two Kindergarten classes. For the 2013-2014 school year, there were two first grade classes and two Kindergarten classes. With the continued support of our superintendent, Trevor McDonald and our LUSD School Board, our 2014-2015 school year, three Kindergarten classes, two first grade classes and two second grade classes will benefit from our Dual Immersion Program. Each year, new cohorts have been added. Our Dual Immersion Program spans K-6th grade
In addition to the academic success of our students, grandparents have shared how pleased they are that they can now communicate and share traditions with their grandchildren in Spanish. Parents of native English speakers have shared how proud they are that their children can effectively communicate with others in Spanish while expanding their English skills. Spanish speaking parents have shared how impressed they are with how much English their children have acquired as well as the high levels of Spanish.
Our program is creating beautifully bilingual, biliterate, and culturally competent students who will be able to adapt and thrive in our rapidly changing global society.
