In order to provide the best education for your student (s), daily attendance is essential. Attendance is compulsory in the State of California for students between the ages of 6 and 18. When a student is absent, the parent has 5 days to clear the absence. The absence may be cleared by telephone or in writing. The 24 hour LVMS attendance line is (805)742-2610. After five days, if the absence is not cleared, it will be recorded as unexcused.
Per California Education Code, students may be excused for the following reasons: Illness, bereavement, court, doctor/dentist appointments, immunization, religious holidays and completed independent study.
Independent study is a program of study to accommodate a pupil who will be absent from school 5 to 10 consecutive days. There must be a contract signed by the parent, principal, counselor and the student at least one week prior to the absence. The assigned work must be completed by the contract due date or the contract will be invalid. Independent Study applications are located in the main office.
