    Hello!
I am honored to introduce myself as your new principal. I look forward to continuing the work done by
Ms. Million and the staff who made this a California Gold Ribbon School. I’m coming from Guadalupe
Union School District where I was the Director of Educational Services. Working in a district office, I
realized how much I missed being around children. I can’t wait to get to meet all the Fillmore students
and families. Before I went to Guadalupe, I was a principal at a similar school in Seaside, Ca. My favorite
memory is the Friday lunches with students who were demonstrating high levels of caring toward their
    fellow students and school.

I began my career teaching both 5th and 2nd grades at Alisal Community School in Salinas. I then taught
high school Spanish, AVID and Spanish for Spanish Speakers. I am fluent in Spanish and have lived in
both Costa Rica and Spain; affording me the opportunity to teach both English Learners and Spanish to
English speakers. I became an administrator in 1998, and have worked in elementary, middle and high
    schools.

I come to Lompoc with a strong professional development background. I worked with the San Luis
Obispo County Office of Education, where my duties included working with superintendents, principals,
teachers, regional partner County offices and universities over two counties through the AVID program.
I was charged with creating a vision and community working together for student success. It is so
rewarding to see students achieve their full potential when attending schools with caring professional
staff who understand the impact of relationships and high expectations. I also assisted teachers and
administrators with the 21st Century Skills of integrating technology and instruction. I’m excited about
the level of use of technology at Fillmore and hope to be able to expand it.

My husband Joe, my two sons Alex (8) and Zachary (11), my three step daughters Brianna (25), Bryce
and Brooke (23) and my little dog “Tito,” are so happy for me to start this new journey with all of you. I
look forward to getting to know you soon. We will work together to ensure success for your child.
Please feel free to come by and visit the office anytime.

    Warmest wishes,

    Julie Turk
    Incoming Principal
    Fillmore Elementary
