WELCOME!! My name is Karen Orsua.  This is my first year teaching at Cabrillo High School .  I am very happy to be here.  I previously taught at Vandenberg Middle School in the Special Education Department.

I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  My voicemail and email are listed above.

I work to engage the students with a variety of teaching strategies.  We watch videos for difficult-to-understand readings.  We work in groups for writing assignments and workbook activities.  The students will write  informative/explanatory essays, number of quick writes, a research and argumentative essay this year.   It is my expectation that most of the assignments will be finished during class.  Anything not completed may be sent home as homework.

Seniors are working on their Senior Research Paper, that are due in November.  They will begin working on their Senior Projects during Winter Break and will present their projects in the Spring.    The senior project accounts for 20% of the students grade.

Grades are based on class participation, writing assignments and worksheets (your student will be notified if the worksheet is for a grade or as a study guide.)  Grades will be posted weekly in Zangle.   Quizzes will be given at the end of the reading.  Tests will be given at the end of the unit.  The students will be able to use their worksheets for the test.

     Homework Policy

There will be no homework unless the student is not able complete an important assignment in class.

     Support/Intervention

It is my goal to provide your student with the academic support they need to be successful.  I again, urge you to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
