Jennifer started teaching at Cabrillo in 2007 and began her teaching career in 1996. She attended Cabrillo High School from 1989-1991 after moving to Lompoc her junior year when her dad was stationed to Vandenberg AFB. She was involved in Madrigals, Concert Choir, Barbershop Quartet, Musicals, Cheerleading, Yearbook, ASB, and Diving.

After graduating from Cabrillo in 1991, she attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo as a Music Major. After four years as a vocal performance major, she graduated in 1995 and then attended CSU-Fresno. She obtained her teaching credential that next year and was recruited to a brand new high school in Bakersfield.

For the next eleven years, Ridgeview High School was Jennifer’s home, where she developed five choirs and school musicals. She was recognized in 2002 by the Toyota International Teacher Program by being one of fifty U.S. teachers picked to represent her state and school oversees. She traveled for two weeks in Japan as a teacher ambassador to learn about the country, its culture and people. In 2005, she became the department chair for the Visual and Performing Arts. Also in 2005, she became a BTSA certified trainer. Jennifer helped new teacher’s obtain their final state credential through a series or observations and mentoring. She was also busy as the Vice-President of the school’s site council and as a member of the leadership committee for WASC visits. In 2006, she was the “Teacher of the Year” at Ridgeview High School and was also a semi-finalist for the Jim Burke Ford “Teacher of the Year” Award.

In April of 2007, she was hired to replace Jane Carlton when she announced her retirement after forty two years with the district. Jennifer now directs three choirs and teaches three musical theater (drama) classes. She produces/directs a fall play and a musical each year. She works with an amazing Arts staff which includes: an accompanist for the choirs, a fall play/winter musical director and a technical director. Besides lots of work, she loves to crash with her Australian Shepherd dog, Ellie, and her crazy cats, Earnest and Edgar.
