Cecilia Barros-Pitts has been a Spanish teacher at Lompoc High School since January of 2003.  Previously, she taught Spanish and French from 1991 to 1993 at Vandenberg Middle School.  In September, 1993 she and her family moved to Santiago, Chile, where she taught English as a Foreign Language for 9 years in a British school called Dunalastair.  Working in Chile gave her enormous perspective and experience in working in a foreign setting, while getting involved in a variety of musicals as part of her students' senior projects.

Mrs. Barros (Sra. Barros for her students) studied translation-interpretation for 2 years in Santiago, Chile.  After that she moved to the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in History in 1989.  A couple of years after graduating, she earned her teaching credential in Social Studies/Spanish and received a Bilingual Certificate of Competence from the State of California.  She is a fellow of the University of California Script Writing Institute and tries to attend professional development seminars on a yearly basis.  She recently earned a scholarship to take part in the AP Spanish Language and Culture Summer Seminar at Stanford University.

Mrs. Barros loves being a teacher at Lompoc High School and specially likes it when her former students keep in touch.

As a native of Chile she tries to visit her family once a year and bring back to Lompoc some of the culture and experiences she encounters there.  She loves to read, going to the beach and watch foreign films during her spare time.
