Mr. Brett Selvy
Mr. Selvy is the Education Specialist teacher at Maple High School. He provides specialized academic instruction in the areas of math, reading, writing, and college/career readiness to students who have learning disabilities and social/emotional disturbances. His students are provided a small-group learning environment in which they are provided appropriate supports, accommodations, and modifications to ensure they can access curriculum, make sense of learning, earn credits, and be successful. Mr. Selvy holds his students to high expectations, yet also provides a compassionate/flexible teaching approach. Mr. Selvy believes we should focus on a student's "ability" instead of disability.
Mr. Selvy has a special education teaching credential in moderate/severe disabilities. He has a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Fresno State. Mr. Selvy has been teaching for more than 7 years including with diverse populations. He has taught at a nonpublic school/residential treatment center in Northern California helping students with severe emotional disturbances, behavioral disorders, and other learning challenges. He has also taught at an international school in the Czech Republic teaching English as a Second Language students from all over the world such as South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Europe. In his spare time, Mr. Selvy enjoys running, hiking, camping, playing basketball, and spending time with his 2-year old daughter.
