Closing the print shop is problematic at a couple of levels as there is no ready place to outsource in Lompoc, and the travel time required to utilize other printing facilities in Santa Barbara County are both operationally and fiscally inefficient.
The District print shop isn’t a for-profit service. Pricing at commercial print shop is 3-5x more than the costs of the district print shop. A commercial print shop will make staff wait days or weeks when other clients are ahead in the priority list.
